Brighton Baseball Junior League

The Junior League is generally for grades 7 and 8.
Brighton Baseball participates in an inter-town “house” league
for Juniors. The inter-town league consists of teams from neighboring
towns including Irondequoit, Gates-Chili, Honeoye Falls-Lima, Pittsford,
Fairport, Penfield, Rochester, Greece, and others.
The Brighton teams will be selected in early April, and
the coaches will then contact players and schedule practices. There
are no tryouts or evaluations.
The schedule begins in early May and runs through the end
of June. There are two games a week for a total of 16 regular season
games.
There are also summer tournament opportunities for this
age group, and announcements with regards to tryouts and schedules
will be available in June.
Home games are played at the Brighton Varsity field and
Moore Corporate Field at Buckland Park, on Westfall Road, with some
of those games played under
the lights!
Points of interest:
- These age groups generally
opt to NOT march in the Opening Day parade. It is up to each team
to decide.
- For Juniors, the biggest
change from Majors will be the size of the field (90 foot base
paths, 60 feet for pitching),on-deck circles and the ability to lead
off base. Additionally, the distance for a catcher to throw out a
would-be base
stealer is that much longer.
- We schedule with an awareness
of the school baseball schedules; so players can sign up to play
school baseball and also this house league and expect to have few
(if any)
conflicts.
- For safety reasons it
is preferred to use molded cleats and -3 oz length/weight bats.
- League
rules do permit metal cleats and do not restrict bat weight.
