1. Umpire Assignors must be notified by 5:00 pm on weekdays and 10:00 am on Saturdays (or one hour prior to game time) if a game is to be cancelled or a field is unplayable:

Western Teams:

RDUA: 671-2037

GVUA: see Big League Contacts

Eastern Teams:

Claude Toppi: (H) 671-2325 or (W) 242-2400, (C) 732-6221

2. Any player ejected from a game will be required to sit out the next game he attends.

3. You may use one designated runner provided that the runner is not in the starting line-up and has not been inserted into the legal line-up.

4. The umpire will automatically call out any runner (he sees) who does not touch an appropriate base. There is no appeal play on base running, tag-ups, etc.

5. Any protests must be made according to the Big League Rule Book (Official Williamsport), (documented in writing and submitted to the president) and called into the Big League director (Dan Duffy, 425-4361) within 24 hours of the protested game. Please mark your scorebook at the point of contention, the time the game ends, and request that an umpire present at the game sign the scorebook.

6. If a team cannot field at least nine (9) players within thirty (30) minutes of the scheduled start, the game can begin with the 8 players that are there. However, the late player must be penciled in, and if he is not there when it is his turn at bat, it is an automatic out. You can play with only 8 players. If you play with only 8 players, there is no automatic out. You have to declare before the game begins, if any other players will be there. They must be penciled in the line-up to play that game.

7. Games cancelled do to unplayable conditions must be rescheduled as soon as possible by the home team manager. The league president must be notified within two days after the cancelled game and informed as to when the game is rescheduled. If needed, the league director will set the time and date for the game to be played. Failure to reschedule game is cause for forfeiture and a 7-0 score will be recorded.

8. All games will be played according to the Big League Rule Book as published by Williamsport, except for these local rules.

9. It is the responsibility of the winning manager to call in the game score to Dan Duffy (425-4361), or send e-mail to dduffy@rochester.rr.com immediately following the game.

10. A player must play at least one half of the season to be eligible for post-season play, unless said player incurred an injury, which prohibited him/her from playing one half of the regular season. Such cases will need approval of the league director.

11. Playing age must be verified and approved by the league president of each town from which the teams come. Only 16, 17, and 18 year old players are eligible. A player must reach his/her 16th birthday by July 31st of the current year, and not reach his/her 19th birthday before August 1 of the current year to be of legal playing age.

12. The home team must supply at least three new baseballs for each game.

13. During playoffs, both teams will be responsible for supplying new baseballs for each game.

14. Roster changes can be made until Wednesday, July 9. Any changes after that date will require the approval of the league director.

15. The maximum number on a roster is twenty (20) players. Any changes must occur under the conditions set in Rule #14.

16. A coach/manager ejected from an official game, for justifiable reasons, must sit out the next scheduled game in the stands. If the same coach is ejected a second time in the same year, with cause, he/she will no longer be part of District Three/Four/Five Big League Baseball.

17. If both teams players go into the field to engage in confrontation, the game is over and no winner is declared. However, if one team refrains from storming the field, that team will be declared the winner. Verification must come from both coaches.

18. If a player is injured, please refer to the communicable disease procedure on page 85 of the Big League Official Regulations and Playing Rules.

19. There is a re-entry rule for all starters.

20. You do not have to slide: you do have to avoid a collision. If you have to slide to avoid the collision, you had better slide, however, if you can go around or over, or whatever to avoid the tag and stay in the base path, then that is legal.

21. The additional hitter (AH) is the 10th player. The AH only hits. The AH can be freely substituted with any player/position except for the DH and DH position player. The AH is like any other player except that his position in the field in the bench. If, due to injury, etc., the DH moves to the field and you now bat only 9 players instead of 10 ‚ no out is recorded in the spot vacated. The spirit of the rule is to get one more player in the line-up. We will not penalize if that spot comes open during the game.

22. Everyone playing must be properly dressed, equipped, and not wearing any jewelry of any sort. Properly dressed means in full team uniform ‚ hat, shirt, pants and socks. Metal spikes are allowed. No skull caps allowed. Catchers are required to be wearing a cup and throat guard.
