Brighton Baseball Big League

Boyís Big League is for players 16 and older. However any current high school sophomore who is League Age 16 (i.e. by 4/30/xx) will be required to register for and play Senior ball in order to also play Big Leagues in the same season. The player must play in at least half the Senior games. If the player, at the end of the Senior season, decides to play Big Leagues, he or she will be assessed an additional $75.00 to play, in lieu of the full $150 that is required for Big Leagues. This $75.00 will be in addition to the $125 the player was charged for Seniors. Please also note that the District IV Big League is a competitive league, and players must try out for the team and there are no minimum play rules.

Brighton Baseball participates in an inter-town league for Big Leagues. This is a competitive league with players with an average to above average level of experience. The Brighton team will be evaluated in the month of June, and the coach (Bobby Schiller) will then contact players. The coaches will schedule practices.

The intertown Big League in the past has consisted of teams from Irondequoit, Gates-Chili, Pittsford, Fairport, Penfield, Genesee Valley, Southside, Oakfield-Alabama, LeRoy, Batavia, and Greece.

The league will start play towards the end of June, and conclude by the end of July. Generally, games are played on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a doubleheader on Saturday. Game schedules will be made available by the coach in the June timeframe.

Home games are played at the Brighton Varsity field and at the Moore Corporate Field at Buckland Park (Westfall Road between Winton Road and South Clinton Avenue), away games at the fields designated by that town. A listing of directions to all games will be made available at the start of the season.

Points of interest:

  • These age groups do NOT march in the Opening Day parade.
  • For Bigs, the biggest change from Juniors and Seniors will be the minimum play requirements ‚ there are none in Big Leagues.
  • For safety reasons, we use Section V rules for baseball bats: a ‚3 length and weight differential. See Brighton Baseball officials if you have questions. Bats, and all regulation equipment, are provided by Brighton Baseball in the given equipment bags.
  • We also want our playerís arms to be safe. Coaches are responsible to follow league rules with regards to innings pitched per player, and will factor in other leaguesí pitched innings if the players and parents make that information available.
